SCHOOL HOLIDAY CLINICS
TEAM SPORT ATHLETES, SPORTING CLUBS AND ACADEMIES
ASPIRE Cairns is excited to announce the commencement of their specialised school holiday Sprints Clinic tailored to ball sport athletes.
A major challenge facing the modern team sport athlete is finding the time to incorporate sessions focusing on individual components of speed and strength into an already jam-packed training program. ASPIRE Cairns’ school holiday program will aim to provide athletes with specialised sprint coaching and technical analysis from Head Coach Brendan Peeters, level 3 IAAF Accredited sprint coach.
Research has shown that straight line sprinting speed is the most frequent action displayed amongst ball sport athletes. On top of this, straight line sprinting speed (both acceleration and maximal sprinting speed) has been shown to distinguish between novice, intermediate and expert performers, indicating that sprinting skills are becoming more and more important in modern sport. Sprint training develops major athletic muscle groups and provides neuromuscular overload resulting in improved contractile velocities and efficiency of muscle recruitment.
ASPIRE Cairns’ school holiday sprints clinic will involve 3 x 2 hour sessions focusing on sprint biomechanics, acceleration, power development, strength and conditioning, maximal speed and video analysis. Athletes will also be provided with a personalised 8 week program at the completion of the clinic to continue their speed development.
